The extinguisher is an open ended cylinder (1), its length being shorter than that of the cigarette (5). The cylinder is made from any non-combustible material and it has both its ends (3, 4) splayed outwards to increase its stability. The cylinder is placed in the vertical position in an ashtray (2), standing on one end. The lighted cigarette is inserted into the other end, the lighted end first, to finally stand on the burning end. The combination of pressure and lack of oxygen extinguishes the cigarette. Its outer surface (6) can carry publicity matter.
