Extracting ginseng e.g. by maceration - with enzyme treatment before maceration

Process comprises submitting the ginseng root to the action of an enzymatic complex before extn. in the normal manner. Pref. enzymes are pectinases, esp. an extract of Aspergillis niger active at 55 degrees C and pH 4.5-3; cellulases, esp. an extract of Basidiomyces sp. Poris active at 50 degrees C and pH 4.3 and a hemicellulase extract of Aspergillus niger active at 60 degrees C and pH 3.5. The extract is used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic prepns. The treatment improves the yield both by softening the material and by removing the cellulose walls.
