Mono:carbonate prodn. - by reacting mono:hydroxy cpd. or aromatic ortho di:hydroxy cpd. with bis(beta-fluoroalkyl) carbonate

Monocarbonates are made by reacting (a) a bis(beta-fluoroalkyl)carbonate with (b) a monohydroxy cpd. such as monohydroxyalcohol or a phenol, or an aromatic dihydroxy cpd. in which the OH gps. are in the ortho-position w.r.t. each other. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a base and opt. a non-polar or low- or medium polar solvent. Suitable bases are alkali(ne earth) metals; basic quat. ammonium cpds., quat. phosphonium cpds., tert. sulphonium cpds., alkali(ne earth) metal hydroxides, salts of strong bases with weak organic acids and prim. sec. or tert. amines. The mol. ratio base hydroxy cpd. is 10-6:1-1:1 (10-3.1-0.01.1). The pref. reaction temp. is 80-300 degrees (120-200) degrees C.
