A turning tool has a body (21) with a diamond shaped hard metal cutting edge (24) which is retained by a screw (25). One side (28) of the cutting edge (24) abuts directly against a ledge formed in the body (21). An adjacent side (29) abuts against an inclined surface (38) of a shaft (36) which fits in a longitudinal hole in the body. The shaft (36) is retained by pointed grub screws (43, 44) which penetrate into conical depressions (41, 42) which are spaced at a distance different from the screw centres. This feature provides a longitudinal adjustment of the shaft (36) which in turn provides a lateral adjustment of the cutting edge.
