The core and yoke assembly consists of three laminated columns with their ends bent over at right angles to form short arms. The short arms are spaced apart by 120 deg. and their ends engage one another at a central point. The laminae in each column (1, 2, 3) have asymmetrically pointed ends and alternate laminae are mirror images so that the end of the short arm has two points formed by the two sets of alternate mirror-image laminae. The right-hand points of one arm fit into the left-hand gaps between the left-hand points of the adjacent arm such that an overlapping structure results at the central point. The apex angle of the points is 120 deg.
