The flat-flame gas burner is designed esp. for use with low combustion-heat gas. It has a central fuel pipe (3) inside a coaxial air casing (1) with a rectangular cross-section tangential inlet, and discharges into a toroidal refractory-lined duct (6). The gas pipe has an end plate (4) with several rectangular cross-section orifices (5) evenly spaced around its periphery. The axes of these orifices are angled 30-60 deg. to the plane perpendicular to the burner axis, in the direction of air swirl. A cylindrical stabiliser (7) may be mounted coaxially on the downstream face of the end plate.
