The rotary worm pump has a tubular stator with a helically contoured inner surface generated by rotating a compositely curved plane figure (S) about the stator axis (P) whilst translating it along that axis. A rotor with a helically contoured outer surface is generated similarly by rotation and translation of a figure (R) along its axis (0). - The helical rotor pitch is twice the stator pitch, and the rotor rotates about its axis (0) whilst precessing (e) around the stator axis (P). The figure (S) is spaced by an amt. (r) around a polar conhoid generated by a straight line (AB) by rotation about a point (0) precessing (e) about the stator axis (P). The length of the line (AB) is at least 8 times the eccentricity (e).
