A coin operated dispenser is designed for ease of operation coupled with mechanical reliability. The articles to be dispensed are stored in a vertical stack with a magazine guide. The guide is pivotted at the bottom end and is set at an angle to the vertical, such that the unit tilts to the right hand front surface of the housing. At the top end is mounted a large ratchet wheel that is indexed by a pawl with a retaining catch. In operation, a coin is entered and is checked. If the check is satisfactory a push button is operated to tilt the complete magazine assembly in an anticlockwise direction. The pawl causes the ratchet to index and a carrier on a continuous chain raises the stack of articles. The top article is detached from the stack and is dispensed through an opening in the front plate. A supply chain is provided to operate between the two chambers.
