1431271 Surface active detergent compositions UNILEVER Ltd 18 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 18812/72 Heading C5D A detergent composition, suitable for washing fabrics, comprises from about 5% to about 30% by weight of a water-soluble orthophosphate salt as builder, and from about 10% to about 45% by weight of a mixture of detergent surfactants comprising (i) alkyl (C 8 -C 20 ) benzene sulphonate and a nonionic surfactant in a ratio from 10 : 1 to 1 : 5, the sulphonate being present in an amount of 5-30% of the total formulation and the nonionic surfactant being present in an amount of 1-15% of the total formulation; or (ii) an alcohol sulphate with the formula where R is a C 12 -C 18 alkyl radical, and an alcohol ether sulphate of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is a C 10 -C 16 alkyl radical and x is 1-5, in a ratio from 2 : 1 to 1 : 10, M being an alkali metal or ammonium ion. The composition may contain detergent surfactants other than those specified. Orthophosphates of sodium, potassium or ammonium may be employed, particularly the monohydrogen and dihydrogen orthophosphates. Detergent surfactant mixtures employed in the examples are (i) dodecyl benzene sulphate with C 11 -C 15 secondary alcohol 9EO or "Dobanol 25" 3EO and (ii) C 24 -C 15 secondary alcohol sulphate with C 12 - C 15 secondary alcohol 3EO sulphate. The alkyl benzene sulphonates may be present in the form of their alkali metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium salts. The composition may comprise additional builders such as sodium carbonate, sodium salts of sulphonated monocarboxylic acids, sodium alkyl and alkenyl succinates and malonates, sodium pyro. phosphate, sodium nitrilotriaacetate, sodium ethylene diaminetetraacetate, sodium citrate or tartrate, sodium malate, sodium hydrofurantetracarboxylate, trisodium carboxymethyloxysuccinate, sodium oxydiacetate or oxydisuccinate, sodium polyacrylate or copolyethylene malate. The composition may also contain silicates, lather boosters, lather depressants, anti-redeposition agents, oxygenreleasing or chlorine-releasing bleaching agents, inorganic salts, fluorescent agents, perfumes, enzymes, germicides and dyes. The composition may be in powder, granule, cake or liquid form. |
