The torque transmission device with a change in transmission ratio comprises, located in the working plane, the driven hub (1) as well as a roller chain (2). Three concentric rings (3a, 3b and 3c), each having a slit (4) can be moved individually and laterally out of the working plane. The chain (2) is engaged with the ring (3a) rotationally secured to the hub (1). In order to change speed the ring (3b) is gradually brought into the working plane of the chain (2) without the transmission of torque being interrupted. After a complete rotation of the hub (1), the whole ring (3b) is engaged with the chain (2). This device is used for example in bicycles. <IMAGE>
