An apparatus for detecting baseline shift in an ECG system, in which there is a multiple element electrode (15, 16) at a given skin location and another such electrode (17, 18) at another skin location, each providing an ECG signal of negligible magnitude between the elements because of the close spacing while the pair of elements are sufficiently separated so that the motion of one element is at least partially independent of the motion of the other. Parallel ECG signals (22, 24) are obtained from different elements of two multiple element electrodes and which under normal operating circumstances would be equal. Any difference between the signals (due perhaps to an electrode becoming dislodged) is detected by logical circuitry (25, 26, 27) to produce a signal on line 26 indicating baseline shift. The baseline shift signal on line 26 will prevent the e.c.g. signal utilizing means from giving a false alarm or output. <IMAGE> |
