1341538 Rotary drum filter IMPROVED MACHINERY Inc 29 March 1972 [14 April 1971] 14784/72 Heading B1D An inward-flow litter drum 20 rotates clockwise in an arcuate vat 10, 14, suspension to be filtered being delivered under pressure through axial gap 48 into a converging space between the drum and an arcuate baffle 52, hinged to the vat at 56 and being resiliently urged towards the drum. In Fig. 1 the baffle is so urged by rams 66 and by the delivery of washing water under pressure through inlet 68. The water flows round the drum and into spaces 74, 76 separated by fixed baffle 72. Water from space 74 flows inwards through the filter cake on the drum, and water from space 76 flows into space 84 outside a second baffle 80, similarly constructed to baffle 52, urging baffle 80 inwards to press the washed cake. Resiliently loaded roller 98 presses the cake further, and the cake is removed from the drum by blades 108, 110 and the drum cleaned by spray 112. The baffles 52, 80 are lined with PTPE to reduce friction with the cake. The baffles could be urged inwards by springs (Figs. 6 to 9, not shown), but rams 66, 88 enable them to be withdrawn from the drum to enable incoming suspension to clear any blockage between the vat and drum. In Fig. 7 the space between baffles 52 and 80 is divided into compartments into which two different cake-washing liquids are delivered. Fig. 10 (not shown) illustrates how baffle 52 may be urged inwards by liquid delivered to a closed chamber (60f), a separate inlet (140) delivering washing liquid. Baffles 52 and 80 may have external reinforcing ribs extending from their hinged ends but stopping short of their free ends. |
