PURPOSE:To satisfactorily execute the control of knocking-limit ignition timing in an ignition timing controller which has a simple logic by controlling the quantity of compensation for ignition timing corresponding to knocking on the basis of a bank. CONSTITUTION:Each of a plurality of cylinders in an internal combustion engine 1 has primary and secondary banks 1a and 1b separated from each other. In a micro-computer 4 the quantity of compensation for an ignition timing inside each of the banks, discriminated by a cylinder discriminating signal sent from an angle sensor 6 is changed or corrected to a higher or lower quantity of compensation for every bank on the basis of the knocking discriminated result obtained from knocking sensors 2 and 3. Using the reference ignition timing, the quantity of compensation for ignition timing except the compensation for knocking and the quantity of compensation for ignition timing for each bank, the final ignition timing is determined. The ignition timing of a cylinder inside a bank with the ignition timing phase in the delay position, as well as that of a cylinder inside a bank with the ignition timing phase in the advance position may be controlled satisfactorily. |
