A spring-loaded pistol implants a veterinary pellet under the skin of an animal e.g. to prolong lactation of a cow or to tranquilise a bull. Pellets (2) are loaded in single file in the bore of a cylindrical cartridge (1). The cartridge is open at both ends so that the thrust of a resilient tip (17) on a plunger (14, 15) will be transmitted through the line of pellets to eject the front one via a hypodermic needle (30). Cartridges are stacked horizontally one on top of another in the chamber (11) of a magazine (3). The bottom cartridge is aligned on the delivery axis (X-X) as it rests in one of four, semi-cylindrical channels (10) in a barrel revolving on a lower axis (Y-Y). A releasable spring catch (12) prevents barrel rotation during delivery. Unloading and reloading is automatic by 90 degrees rotation of the barrel.
|
