The element for use on the external wall face of a building consists of a layer of fibrous insulating material, and of screening in front of this. The insulating layer (1) incorporates an impregnation which deflects water. The screening component is in the form of a superimposed shell (2) which can be penetrated by moisture (3). Fibre alignment in the insulating layer may conform to the vertical direction in which the element is built in. This provides a moisture barriers or open spaces between the insulation layer and screening.
