Leaf filter with solvent removal by evaporation - having heat for evaporation provided by hot wash liquor used at end of filtration followed by evaluation

The liq. phase of a very finely divided solids suspension is removed in a leaf filter. When a sufficient cake has accumulated on the leaves, the cake is washed with hot solvent. This is then drained back to a heated storage vessel using hot N2. The filter vessel is then evacuated using a vacuum pump with a condenser in the line. The residual solvent on the cake evaporates, cooling the filter in the process. Used for recovering solids with a very fine particle size from suspensions liq. after liq. phase reactions. This allows a satisfactory drying out of the solids after a mechanical liq. removal stage.
