<p>A flexible protruding wall, borne on buoyant units and loaded with weights, forms the barrier to keep water surfaces clear of oil floating towards them. It is made of double-layered foil sheeting or textiles joined to form a tube. It has a lengthways seam dividing it into a wider upper tube-shaped part and lower narrower one. Transverse battens of stiff material and openings between these on one side, partition it into sections. Panel-shaped buoyant units are inserted in the wider part between the battens and openings, and heavy metal strips in the narrower part. This is effective on fast-flowing water, checking oil and preventing it from passing underneath.</p> |
