The face mask respirator for use in contaminated areas is supplied with air from a compressed air source. The compressed air supply is combined with a space air intake assembly fitted in the aspiration hose. During normal operation the respirator is supplied with compressed air while the overpressure inside the mask is higher than the breathing-in suction. Due to this overpressure the diaphragm bulges outward against the force of a spring and keeps the plug of the overpressure unit (5) in open position and the valve remains closed. If the compressed air supply fails or the hose is disconnected from the compressed air supply source, the pressure inside the mask decreases and room air intake takes place through valve and filter.
