The metal scrap, with a uniform size, is fed down a tube into a bath heated to a temp. above the m.pt. of one metal being reclaimed, so this metal flows into a collector while the remaining solids are lifted out of the bath via a screw feeder. An oil bath heated above 327 degrees C. is pref. used to melt and remove Pb; whereas a salt bath heated above 419 degrees C. is pref. used to melt and remove Zn. Oil burners are pref. employed to heat the baths, esp. in a plant which includes an oil bath for removing Pb, followed by a molten salt bath removing Zn from the scrap, which then travels to a heating zone for the melting and removal of Al. The initial scrap is pref. fed down a tube fitted with a vibrator. Useful in continuous mass prodn. treatment of scrap contg. e.g. Cu, Pb, Zn, Al and brass.
|
