The shaft diffuser is for use in a gas line. It is fitted as a transition piece between an input tube and a chamber. The flow cross-section of the chamber is much greater than that of the input tube. It has an impact body concentric to the input tube in the form of a plate, a cone or a pyramid which is so arranged that a free flow cross-section remains on its complete periphery between it and the diffuser wall. The end of the input tube (10) has a rounded cross-section expansion (12), whose radius is 0.12 times the width (Da) of the input tube (10). The input body (15, 25) is partly perforated and the space (a or a') between the impact body and the diffuser wall (17, 22) amounts to 0.1 to 0.2 times the width (Da) of the input tube (10).
