<p>The typewriter mechanism comprises a disc with elastic ribs on which the characters are mounted, these being caused to strike the paper on the platen by a power operated hammer working with an elastic component and whose energy is restricted dependent on the surface area of the character. The elastic component is formed by a system of levers on a fixed axis, coupled at one end to the hammer, and engaging at the other on hammer movement with one of several stops on the disc. These stops are at varying distances from disc axis, dependent on the character surface area. The lever system comprises a lever (39) coupled to the hammer (43), and in turn coupled by a tension spring (33) to a stop lever (21) swinging against a stop (17) on the disc (1). The spring is so mounted that when the second lever (21) strikes the stop, the first one (39) lifts clear of a supporting face (37) on it, simultaneously increasing tension in the spring.</p> |
