The redox (oxidation reduction) potential measuring system is esp. for water preparation. A measuring electrode is inserted into the specimen liq. to be investigated. The measuring process is interrupted from time to time. During each pause a quantity of an acid substance in liq. or dissolved form is introduced into the specimen liq. by means of at least one dosing jet in the region of the measuring electrode. The measuring electrode can be surrounded by a housing having openings for through-flow of the specimen liq. the dosing jet opening into this housing. The specimen flow can be stopped during the measuring pauses. The pressure difference between the flowing and still periods can be used to introduce the acid substance. This arrangement counteracts any tendency to form alkaline deposits.
