The fuel economy of an internal combustion engine is improved by incorporating in the lubricating oil used to lubricate the crankcase of said engine for 0.25 to 2 weight percent of a fatty acid ester of glycerol and from 15 to 25 millimols per kilogram of zinc O,O-di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphorodithioate. The fatty acid ester, for example glycerol monooleate or glycerol tallowate, can be added to lubricating oil to form a lubricating oil composition. |
