<p>An improved method is disclosed for preparing alkoxysilane cluster compounds having the formula: RSi¢oSi(OR')3!3 wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl group and each R' is independently selected from alkyl, alkenyl, aryl and aralkyl with the proviso that at least a majority of the R' radicals are sterically hindered alkyl groups having at least 3 carbon atoms. The improved preparation method involves reacting a substituted trihalosilane with a trialkoxysilanol in the presence of a critical amount of an acceptor base in a solvent reaction medium while maintaining the reactor temperature within a select range.</p> |
