<p>The present invention provides a machine for making a chain of metallic shaped links comprising a feeding device adapted to feed a wire for forming each chain link; a first shaping device adapted to wind said wire to form a cylindrical wire spiral of preselected radius and pitch; a gripping device carrying pliers including gripping members and adapted to effect rectilinear strokes to and from a zone into which a free end of the wire spiral extends, and associated with said first shaping device, means to impart an axial rotation to said gripping device, means to cause the gripping members of the pliers to open or close so as to grip a first spiral turn at said free end; a cutting device adapted to effect reciprocal strokes and including cutting means adapted to separate said first spiral turn from the said free end of said wire spiral, and associated with shaping means adapted to urge the end of said cut turn to be adjacent each other; a second shaping device comprising two shaping members adapted to move towards or away from each other in a direction at right angles to the displacement and to the rotational axis of the device supporting the pliers and shaped to impart the desired configuration to said wire turn to form said link; a welding unit arranged to weld the ends of the chain link so formed; and control means adapted to move into the operative positions and to render operative or inoperative in a preselcted time sequence and at desired times the various devices or means of the machine.</p> |
