PURPOSE:To obtain a magenta coupler having high coloring density, superior storage stability, high resistance to discoloration and fading, and capability of forming a high density magenta dye image, by using a specified compound. CONSTITUTION:The compound to be used as a magenta coupler is represented by formula I (R1, R2, R3 are each H, alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, aryl, or a heterocyclic group; R1 and R2 or R3 may link and form a 5- or 6-membered ring; R2 and R3 may link and form an N-containing 5- or 6-membered ring; 2 or more of R1, R2, and R3 are not simultaneously H; X is H or a releasable group with n valences, n being 1, 2, or 4 by coupling), and has a -NR1CONR2R3 group linked to a benzamide group present in the structure of this compound, such as formula II or III. A preferable amount of the above coupler to be used is about 10-100g per mole of silver halide. |
