PURPOSE:To restrain formation of bubbles and improve frequency response of jetting of droplets by cooling a heater substrate to rapidly lower the heater surface temperature and thereby moderating the heating of a recording medium liquid. CONSTITUTION:Cooling of a substrate is adjusted within the range from room temperature to the freezing point of a recording medium liquid by a Peltier element or a refrigerator. Though quicker temperature changes can be obtained as the substrate temperature is lower, too low a temperature increases the viscosity of the liquid, so that it is preferable to coduct temperature control in the range of 0-50 deg.C. In the case of a single head, a heater is formed by selective hot etching after an insulator layer 12, heating resistor 13, and electrodes 141 and 142 are formed in layers on a substrate 11. Then a protective layer 15 is completed. A grooved plate 16 is adhered onto the layer 15 so that its groove covers the heater to form a liquid chamber 2. The temperature of the substrate 11 is controlled by a Peltier cooler 18, radiation fins 19, and fan motor 20. |
