A filter cloth for a pressure band filter is constituted by a bed of uncompressed fibres fixed on a very strong cloth perforated to allow the filtrate to flow through. The bed of uncompressed fibres creates a large number of small channels through the suspension applied on it allowing the liq. in the suspension to flow more easily. This produces a much dryer sediment at the end of the pressing than that obtd. with a conventional cloth composed of synthetic mono-strands. The cake separates very easily from the bed of fibres which has served to collet it. The cloth support ensures the strength necessary for a pressure filter. It prevents a canvas of large threads sufficiently spaced to allow easy flow of the expressed liq.
