The plant for collecting and briquetting domestic waste has a housing (1) with a loading opening (2) and a discharge opening (24). A chamber (4) is provided in the housing. A screw conveyor (6) compacts the waste charged through the opening (2) into the chamber. An abutment disc (15a) is mounted within the chamber (4) for movement rearwardly under the action of waste compacted in the chamber in response to rotation of the conveyor screw (6) to compact more waste in the chamber. The chamber (4) is axially movable by reversible drive also arranged to drive the conveyor screw (6) for the abutment disc (15) to eject a briquette from the chamber (4). The chamber (4) is also provided with means for freezing a briquette formed therein.
