The armchair can be adapted to the shape of the sitter, and gives adequate support to the spine. The back rest (3) of the chair can be altered and has upholstery fixed to a strip (4) surrounding the back rest and covering the seat. The upholstered cushion (5) and its cover strip are mobile. The cover strip is flexible and slides over a smooth surface at the top of the back rest (3), and rolls up partly over a rotary pivot (23) at the top of the back rest.
