The main converter has an auxiliary converter in parallel and connected to the same DC circuit. On the AC side are parallel capacitors common to both converters, and series capacitors in the supply to the auxiliary converter. Both converters are controlled by a common regulator. The auxiliary converter assists the commutation of the main converter and also prevents sudden changes in current in the DC circuit and sudden changes in voltage.
