The foundations for supporting the walls of buildings have concrete ground beams and sub basement walls cast in situ with minimum levelling and plumbing. The ground beam (1) with its reinforcement (2) is cast into the excavation. The sub basement wall (3) is cast on top with a capping of bitumen felt (16) to form the damp proof course. A set back (22) is also provided to stop water creep. Footings (13) are built into the edge of wall (3) and ground beam (18). Reinforcement (17) is cast to take the shuttering for a wall (12) with its exterior finished cladding (19).
