The transport of road vehicles by train cars, esp. in urban systems, involves simple railway vehicles, able to communicate with a central control point. The system includes loading stations with ramps, parking tracks, approach roads, remote-controlled junction points and interval security provision, as in 2848599. For securing the road vehicles in position, there are provided hydraulic gripping rails (3). These are pressed against the tyres from both sides, first with an adjusting pressure and then with a gripping pressure. They pref. extend over the whole length of the transport vehicle. The upper edge of the gripping rails may have extensible, resilient lugs at uniform spacing.
