Language teaching system using recorded lessons - played back with programmed breaks whose length can be set by pupil

The teaching system has a variable time switch or similar timing device with which the pupil can set the duration of the pauses between consecutive steps in the recorded lesson so that they are of a length that gives him time to assimulate the material presented. The system is intended esp. for language laboratories where a pupil finds it esp. useful to set the length of the pauses himself. The recorded lesson has marker pulses recorded along with it that trigger the time switch, i.e. tell the time switch that a pause is due.
