The tool for cutting cables etc. has a fixed blade and a movable counter blade to which the cutting force generated by explosion pressure, is transferred by means of a piston. The blades have overlapping, adjacent surfaces which slide on each other. One cutting edge is recessed to accept the cable and one cutting edge has an inclined cross section. In the regions in which they are in contact with the workpiece, the blades have a relatively thin wall thickness. They also have shoulder type reinforcements on the longitudinal edges and in the region of their rear end.
