The vertical column mounted between floor and ceiling is used as an anchorage to restrain or support an animal for veterinary purposes. A single column can be used for a chain to tether the leg of an animal such as a cow or two columns can support a strap between them to pass under an animal. Four columns can be used to carry horizontal members to which is attached a large strap to pass under a heavy animal such as a bull. The column has a floor pad (9) and roof pad (24), and can consist of sections (2, 3, 4) bolted together and with a height adjustment system. Lifting equipment can be fitted to lift the animal. A jacking mechanism can be used for height adjustment, and a hydraulic cylinder or nut and screw drive can be used for lifting.
