The frictional surface in a clutch are, on the input side, mounted on rings (7, 9) of light alloy. Torque transmission from the cast-iron input flywheel (2) to one ring (7) is achieved by bolts (13) in the former locating in radial slots (71) in the latter, allowing differential thermal expansion of the two metals. Both light alloy rings have radial grooves (72, 92) along which cooling air is ducted. This, together with the higher thermal conductivity of the light alloy, helps to dispose of frictional heating. Lighter clutch construction thus results.
|
