<p>The incineration takes places on normal grates, or air furnaces with rotary drum grates. The chute down from the funnel has motorised top and bottom flaps, interlocked to operate alternately. The space in between is rendered inert by the injection of steam at 1.2 - 2.5 bar and 110 - 150 deg.C through one continuously open line and another intermittently opened by a motorised valve powered from the lower flap operating circuit. A timing unit operates this valve and, via a delay unit, also the lower flap on completion of the additional steam injection. The process ensures stable temperature at the chute of 40-60 deg.C, which reduces its soiling and clogging. It also provides safeguards against plane flash-back and reduces the steam consumption.</p> |
