The cpds. are of formula (I) R1-CHOH-CHR2-S(O)nR3 (I) (where R1 = 1-22, esp. 10-22C alkyl; R2 = H (pref.) or 1-22C alkyl; R3 = 1-22C alkyl or CHR2.CHOH-R1; n = 0, 1 or 2; at least one of the R1-CHOH-CHR2 gps. contains 10-24C). Some of these are known, e.g. from DT 1768266; 1948385. For powdered and granular washing- and cleaning agents and for resin dispersions, in amts. of 0.1-5, pref. 0.2-3.5%. (I) may be incorporated in the washing agent during the spray-drying or granulating stages of process, or it may be admixed with a washing agent component which is then admixed with the remaining components.
