A retaining ring, supported on a radially aligned inside socket ledge, secures the plate-mounted neck against axial withdrawal, on the handle fixture on an escutcheon, or similar plate. The ring fits in an annular socket groove, and has inward ribs engaging counter-ribs for bayonet-locking retention. The ring (16) is made of elastic material. It is supported on the ledge (13) in the bearing socket (6) by convex protuberances (18) following window-type cutouts (19) in the ring walling. It has protrusions (17) between its ribs (10), each locking into the gap (a) between two counter-ribs (8). Stability in each direction of handle turning is enhanced, and neck and plate are mounted with no possibility of axial play.
