The thread guide mechanism winds spools in parallel, having a thread guide support reciprocating parallel of the spool axis, and a guide movable in relation to the support and against which a thruster acts, bearing against the periphery of the windings. The thruster acting against a guide is a ram, connected to a supply of compressed air, at constant pressure. It is also connected to a pressure-equalisation chamber counteracting the rise in pressure as the guide deflects with the increasing diameter of the windings on the spool.
