<p>The signalling device, esp. for use by traffic police, consists basically of a hand-grip (1), a holding frame (2) and a card insert (3). The frame is open on one side, and has a front-edge lip (6), and a flat backing piece behind, which is eventually covered by the card (3). The latter may carry large or small symbols giving an emergency message such as "SOS", "POLICE", "PETROL", etc. The card may comprise two separate pieces, the front portion being transparent and the rear portion opaque. A slot is provided at the top of the frame to permit the card to be inserted or removed as desired. The hand-grip is hollow, and may contain a battery connected to a filament lamp bulb so that the card may be illuminated to make it visible by night.</p> |
