The anti-skid fitting for a vehicle wheel for icy or slippery conditions, has a dished hub plate (10) mounted on the wheel hub (2) with radial arm (43) having end extensions (40) resting on the tyre tread (38) and carrying pads (81) which can have spikes (82) projecting from them. The radial arms can be swung or slid from their operating position to a retracted position when not required. When retracted, the whole assembly does not exceed the diameter of the hub. The arms are positively located in their operating position and are secured by hammer head screws (47) with their heads (48) on the inside of the hub plate fitting into locating slots.
