The mat which can be made of rubber, plastics or other flexible material has flat ribbed structures in which the hollow strip-like ribs are mounted in rows on the rectangular underneath surface (7). Recesses are distributed over the surface in the region of these ribs to take resilient inserts (9) which have a non-slip covering (11) and which protrude past the underneath surface (7) i.e. the contact surface which rests on the ground or base of the shower cubicle. The tread wall (4) of the recess can be provided with downward facing tongues (8) to which the insert is fixed. The individual mats which are made approx. the size of a foot can be grouped together in any number to make a suitable sized shower mat and since the feet will automatically cover at least two single mats a high non-slip result is obtained. The mats are chemically resistant and suitable for use in decontamination showers.
