The vehicle mounted roof rack, particularly a ski rack has a frame with members (1) carrying extensions (2) at the bottom with resilient bottom blocks (3) which fit into the rain water gutter (4). Securing straps (6) which enclose the skis placed on the rack are bent over at the bottom (8) to pass under the gutter, then bend downwards again so that the ends (9) are trapped under the door seal (12). Thus as long as the doors are shut locked the contents of the roof rack cannot be stolen by removing the straps. When seen from the side, these straps can be forked at the parts by which they are trapped behind the door.
