The width of the hole is determined by the width and sometimes by the thrust of the drilling tool, on the woodworking machine, esp. an arcillating-plane mortising machine, for drilling holes in a workpiece. The workpiece (71) is mounted to be adjustable between two end positions in the width direction, relative to the drill head (21). The drill head and workpiece are controllable together, so that one part hole (a) is drilled in the first end position, at full depth and then a second (b) at full depth in the other position. This enables one tool to drill holes of different width, without tool replacement or machine adjustment.
