PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized cell having a maximum energy density at the discharge of a minimum current as well as excellent discharge efficiency by using positive electrode with the main active substance of cupric oxide powder having a specific particle distribution. CONSTITUTION:The positive electrode 5 with the main active substance of cupric oxide powder more than 90wt% of which are of a grain size of 10-35 microns and the negative electrode 3 of a light metal, e.g., Li, etc., are used. To implement the condition that the smaller the particle size, the greater the reacting surface becomes and the more the high rate discharge is made possible, the defect that the packing capacity (Ah/cc) is reduced due to the lowering of packing density upon the molding of the positive electrode 5 is removed and thus energy density per volume can be raised and also a maximum energy density can be obtained at the discharge of small current. |
