Aerosol compositions consist of a solution of a film-forming polymer and a corticosteroid in an organic solvent and a propellant. The propellant may be a mixture of trichloromonofluoromethane and dichlorodifluoromethane. The corticosteroid may be hydrocortisone or triamcinolone acetonide. The polymer may be a cellulose acetate-butyrate ester, and it may be used with a plasticizer.ALSO:A topical medicament comprises an organic solvent solution of a film-forming polymer and a corticosteroid, which solution, on application to a skin surface, leaves a non-tacky skin-adherent film containing the corticosteroid. Alternatively, a pre-cast polymeric film containing the corticosteroid may be rendered tacky and applied as a dressing. Specified corticosteroids are hydrocortisone and triamcinolone acetonide. The preferred film-forming polymers are mixed cellulose acetate-butyrate polymers which have been plasticized. The medicament may be applied to the skin by painting or by spraying. In the latter case, the medicament is in the form of an aerosol composition. |
