PURPOSE:To obtain an electrolyte plate having good breakage resistance and good retaining capability by specifying the pore distribution in an electrolyte matrix so that the volume ratio V of pores having a diameter of 10mum or more to the total pore volume is in the range of 8<=V<=50. CONSTITUTION:In the electrolyte plate of a molten carbonate fuel cell prepared by impregnating a carbonate in a porous electrolyte matrix made of gamma-lithium aluminate, the pore distribution in the electrolyte matrix is specified so that the volume ratio V of pores having a diameter of 10mum or more to the total pore volume is in the range of 8<=V<=50. By the breakage resistance of pores having a pore diameter of 10mum or more and the carbonate retaining capability of pores having a pore diameter of less than 10mum, an electrolyte plate having good breakage resistance and good retaining capability is obtained. |
