METHOD FOR PREPARING AMINO COMPOUNDS Organic diamines can be prepared by first reacting a tertiary mono-amine with glyoxal and reducing the formed diimine in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst. Additional advantages are derived by carrying out the reduction step in the presence of a lower alkanol and in the presence of the tertiary mono-amine used to make the diimino compound. The diamino compounds thus obtained are useful as catalysts in the preparation of polyphenylene oxide resins.
